Team Work... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

She began sewing on my Bernina

when she was 4 years young...

She is now 10 years of age...

She came over during her Spring Break

in April and pieced the star...

She came back over the Summer and

finished piecing the quilt top...

We will team up to complete the Quilt:

I basted it and completed the machine quilting...

She has been busy playing volleyball

and basketball...

She has quilted small projects so far,

but nothing this large...

This is the backing fabric she chose...

I completed the binding last week...

Medallion Star Quilt...DONE ! from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

The last time I posted this quilt

it was still on the design wall...

I was just finishing up the borders...

Today the machine quilting is complete

and I am in the binding stage...

I always use my trusty Folgers can to hold my

binding while I am at the machine...

I can't live without my clips

to hold down the folded edge of the binding...

I recently made a few of these Clam Up pouches

to hold my binding clips...

The pouches open wide and it is easy

to get the clips in and out while I am ...

Medallion Star Quilt...Progress from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

Last week I managed to finish all

36 of the border blocks

Today I am putting all of the quilt blocks

up on the design wall together

for the very first time...

A few of the star blocks are up...

Here is the start of the center of the quilt...

The Star Medallion block is in place...

More small star blocks and

the center is almost filled in...

9 rows up on the design wall...

The quilt is too big for the wall

so the 10th and final row doesn't fit.

This is the pattern book I am working ...

Medallion Star Quilt....Border from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

I am still pecking away at this quilt...

I forgot to take an updated photo,

but all 40 star blocks have been completed.

I am now assembling all of the

border blocks:

I do love assembly line stitching...

All of the little 4 patch blocks are done...

I am now assembling the 9 patch blocks

with the 4 patch blocks...

9 Patch Border Block...

The little light gray squares create a design

all around the edge of the quilt...

This image from the pattern shows

how the border blocks are arranged...

I need 36 nine patch border blocks...

Christmas Quilts... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

I spent this week finishing up the

Christmas Quilts

I began in January of this year...

The machine quilting is complete

on the Christmas Tree Quilt...

Time to trim off the rough edges...

The binding is ready to go...

I do most of my bindings by machine...

Large scale quilting...I love it !

Back side of binding...

Just need to get the label sewn on...

Ta-Done !

The Vintage Christmas quilt

is machine quilted...

Love those swirls and snowflakes...

Trimming off the rough edges...

The binding is pieced, pressed and ready

to stitch in place...

The red binding works nicely...

Medallion Star Quilt....Progress from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

This has been my Wednesday project

for the last 5 weeks...

I meet with my local quilt group on Wednesdays.

We laugh and have a great time together

and sometimes I get some stitching done too !

By the second Wednesday,

I was making these strip units...

It took several Wednesdays to complete

all 20 of these units...

Today I began putting the top together

on the design wall:

The center medallion star is 20 inches square...

It is FUN watching it grow...

I do love an  "on point" setting...

Next up.....Star Blocks

This will be a queen size quilt ...

Wapiti....Wedding Quilt from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

I began stitching this quilt 4 months ago...

It started with an Elk fabric panel...

I added a light inner border to

brighten up this dark panel...

added a second green border...

then I began assembling 9 patch blocks

and decided to set them on point

to add some movement to the quilt...

in July added the two final borders...

blue tree fabric and yellow tree fabric.

Last week I got it....under the needle

of my Handi Quilter Sweet Sixteen Long Arm...

I took it for Show 'n Tell

to my local quilt group this week:

They helped me ...

Flowers for Auntie... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

It is time to get this comfort quilt

under the needle...

This measures 72 inches square

so I am machine quilting it on my

Handi Quilter Sweet Sixteen...

The quilting is complete and I am

squaring up the quilt...

I used a clam shell ruler to

quilt the center...

I kept the design simple so it would

not complete with this large floral fabric.

Swirls and plume quilting design

in the pink border...

Feather quilting in the white border...

I matched the thread colors so they

would not stand out and complete with these

gorgeous, large floral fabrics...

It is on the basting table today.

Warm & White Batting...

Odif 505 Basting Spray...

It is all basted and ready to go under the needle...

This is the Elk Wedding Quilt

New York Beauty Quilt... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

It's time to change up the quilt on the bed...

It's been awhile since we had our

New York Beauty Quilt

on the bed...

I started paper piecing this quilt in 2009...

I love paper piecing...

that's the best way to get those really

pointy points...

I used lots of floral and fruit fabrics...

I also enjoy curved piecing...

I think I enjoyed the challenge of this quilt...

It's back on the bed and we can enjoy

all of this color over the summer!

Quilting and Baling Hay... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

I am creating a Comfort Quilt...

I pulled a bunch of large floral fabric scraps

that have been in the stash for 20 years or so...

I chose this gladiolus fabric for the center.

They measure about 8 inches tall...

There was enough of this pink zinnia fabric

for a border around the gladiolus...

Before I knew it, there are 3 borders on

and it measures 60 inches square.

I will put one last border on...

Out in the last hay field:

We are finishing things up...

I am raking and the Cowboy is baling...

Vintage Christmas Quilt....Top Done from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

This is what the Christmas quilt

looked like last month...

The pick up truck blocks were completed...

and stitched into rows with the trees...

Last week I added a narrow white border

and a narrow red border...

It is now complete with a wide

green border...

Quilting and binding are next!

We are in the 3rd hay field this week...

I was able to get the mowing and raking done

after the heat wave was over...

The Cowboy is baling it today...

One more hay field left to do.

The Elk Wedding Quilt.... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

The last time I shared this quilt

it was in the design stage...

I completed all of the 9 patch blocks

and began piecing them into borders...

I completed the quilt top last month:

I had to re-cut the inner green border

to make the 9 patch border fit correctly...

Once the 9 patch borders were in place,

I added 2 more tree borders...

I have had this aspen trees

with blue background

fabric for years...

so happy to finally find a quilt for it.

The final border is also aspen trees

in the autumn with yellow leaves...

The quilt ...

Vintage Christmas Quilt... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

This is my latest project

when I meet with my local

quilting tribe...

Vintage Christmas

It took several days to cut out all of the pieces:

How much do I love these pick up trucks !

This pattern was nicely written

and so easy to follow...

All 5 pick up trucks have been completed...

Now it is time to piece the big trees:

Big and smaller trees...

All of the units have been pieced together...

It is time to cut the sashing strips,

but that is for next time.

Yes, I am desperately in need of a new design wall.

The Wedding Quilt... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

We live along the Big Elk River...

When we rise in the morning,

we see the Elk through the fog,

grazing just outside the yard fence...

The Elk are calving right now and will

bring their calves into our hay fields in June...

Two winters ago an orphan elk calf took up

with our cow herd and ate hay right off

the hay truck when we fed each morning...

When you live in this little valley,

you learn to live with the elk...

Our neighbors are getting married in August...

They also live along the Big Elk River...

Nature Boy Quilt... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

I challenged myself to gather up fabrics

only from the cupboard

and make a quilt...

This quilt is for a friend

who loves to fish and camp...

These are leftover fabrics from previous quilts

made years and years ago...

It was FUN to get these vintage fabrics out

and stitch them into a new quilt...

Elk, Fish, Moose...

It took one day to put the quilt top together...

It took one more day to machine quilt it...

It took the third day to bind & label it...

Done !

Horse Quilt...Done ! from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

" Unbridled "

72 x 56 inches

The horse quilt is the same as the

pillows on the couches.

It's good to have it done and enjoy it

in the living room.

We had 5 newborn calves this morning...

They are all strong and healthy.

This is Althea Red

She is one of our oh so beautiful heifers.

She isn't showing any signs of calving just yet.

We check on the cattle several times a day to

see if any of the mamas are in labor yet.

Sometimes they need our help having their babies.

Horse Quilt... from May Your Bobbin Always Be Full

Remember this horse panel quilt top?

It has been sitting around long enough...

time to get it....under the needle !

It is a fair sized quilt, so I will quilt it

on my Big Girl Machine...

Handi Quilter Sweet Sixteen

This is a Sit-Down Long Arm

and I love it for larger projects...

I used the Handi Quilter Wave Ruler

to quilt the center of the panel...

I used the Hand Quilter Ditch Ruler

for all of the straight line quilting...

To mark the spine of the feather,

I used my very favorite marking tool...

Ultimate Marking Pencil
